Rob Hall Gewurztraminer 2015
I’ve known Rob for years. He’s a regular (actually, a lot of the wines you will see here are made by regulars), I remember him bringing this one in and I did the Dwayne Johnson/The Rock eye brow thing.
My first thought was Gewurz in the valley? Didn’t know it was a thing.
Next was the alcohol content of 11.5%, pretty low for the varietal and a good indicator in my opinion. As a high acid wine there is a temptation to push for higher alcohol levels and accentuate its inherent tropical fruit richness and sweet spice with high alcohol levels, but it tends to end up resembling your opinionated, tipsy aunty.
So I was really excited when I tried this Gewurztraminer and it was all the things it should be – light lychee and green apple, feathery eau de parfum qualities and a good, solid acid backbone to keep everything fresh.
Drink now, do it with food (Thai papaya salad – in fact most things thai), just do it.
